Field Trips for Pre-K and Kindergarten

For young children, sensory exploration creates lasting impressions. Our lessons for this age group include an array of activities that focus on the senses, allowing children to create an awareness and appreciation for the textures, scents, sights and sounds of nature. We offer the following programs for young learners:

Animal Homes
Through games and exploration, students learn that every creature needs food, water, shelter and space to survive in nature. Throughout the lesson, students discover holes, nests and other signs of wildlife.
Able to be taken at Riverbend or Saunders Woods

Fur, Feathers, Slimy and Scaly
What is the difference between a mammal and a bird, or reptile and amphibian? After this lesson, your students will know! With artifacts, live animals and nature exploration, students will explore the exciting groups of the animal kingdom.
Able to be taken at Riverbend or Saunders Woods

Nature Explorer
Touch a fluffy seed. Smell a fragrant leaf or flower. Discover through your five “tools” all the wonderful things nature has to offer! Through activities that use sight, hearing, smell and touch, children learn that there’s more than meets the eye in the great outdoors.
Able to be taken at Riverbend or Saunders Woods

Pond & Stream
What animals live in the water? Answer this question and more as we explore the differences between two of Riverbend’s most popular features, its pond and stream. Discover the secrets of these watery worlds through hands-on exploration and live animals.
Program is perfect for April to October.

Tall, Tall Trees
Fall is all about the trees as they change into jewel-like colors and prepare for winter. Explore the many ways that trees are important to all living things. Able to be taken at Riverbend or Saunders Woods

Lenape and Nature
Whether they were hunting, fishing or foraging, Lenape’s lives were closely tied to the natural world. Through hands-on activities, students will gain an understanding of Lenape life before European contact. ***Please note that this program no longer includes a demonstration Lenape village.
