ATOP THE HILL AT RIVERBEND
Riverbend’s Board of directors cordially invites you to a “Farm to table” dinner prepared by Executive Chef Garfinkel of AG Catering. This exclusive dinner will take place at the highest point on Riverbend’s property, under a tent, capturing the last of summer’s glow. The evening will include valet parking, specially selected local beer and wine and a gourmet, 3-course dinner featuring locally grown ingredients.
Alex Garfinkel, executive chef of AG Catering, has spent the last decade developing his talents at a collection of iconic eateries. He opened his career at the pinnacle of French cuisine in Philadelphia, receiving a Francophile influence from his time at the acclaimed Le Bec Fin and Lacroix. He further honed his talents at Morimoto and Amada, where he learned food preparation and presentation in the distinct styles of two iron Chefs. He then traveled abroad to Spain, where he learned the principles of molecular gastronomy during a year working under Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz — named the fourth best restaurant in the world in 2013. www.alexgarfinkel.com
Her recent book, Good Morning, Beautiful Business: the Unexpected Journey of an Activist Entrepreneur & Local Economy Pioneer is the Gold medal winner of the 2014 Nautilus Book Award in Business Leadership. 7th Annual SHIVERFEST
4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Shiverfest is Riverbend’s most entertaining night of the year, with 600 visitors enjoying a fun, family friendly event with engaging activities sprinkled throughout our site.
As the name evokes, Shiverfest is a slightly spooky but always friendly fall festival. Halloween is the prevailing theme with pumpkin decorating, a trick or treat trail, and storytelling around the campfire after our costumed visitors have trekked the infamous Haunted Trail. Back by popular demand will be our Forgotten Friends reptile show, moon bounce, pony rides and more. New this year is ghostly stargazing to search the night sky for celestial signs of Halloween. Sustenance for all is available and in-kind donations of adult beverages will also be available.
Riverbend teaches environmental principles to children through a direct connection with nature, inspiring respect for our natural world and action as aware, responsible and caring citizens. Support from Shiverfest directly supports our education programs for children. Last year our school initiatives reached 8,600 students through 17,000 program visits with 70% from underserved communities.
This year, 15% of the proceeds from Shiverfest Sponsorships will be used for our Sponsor-a-Camper program, providing children from low-income families with an opportunity to develop their love of nature in our popular Exploration Summer Camp.
Established in 1974 as a wildlife refuge on the remaining land of a local estate, we have evolved into a dynamic center for important nature and science education initiatives that are impacting future generations of environmental stewardship. Riverbend now serves more than 15,000 people annually through our programs plus an additional 600 volunteers help to restore and maintain our 30 acre preserve.
